Quite right. I have just beenmilking her, but her milk has gone all dry.MILKY-WHITE: Mooooooooooo!JACK: Mother, I know I can sell her. I’m just theman to do it!Jack goes out along the road, Old Man comes on.OLD MAN: God morning, good morning! What alovely day. Where are you off to?JACK: To the market, of course.OLD MAN: Are you willing to sell that cow? It’s avery fine cow.JACK: Yes, I am. How much are you going to payme?Old Man opens his hand.JACK: Beans!!! (Jack is astonished.)OLD MAN: They’re not any old beans, they’re Magicbeans.Jack takes the beans and walks homeJACK: Mother, mother! Guess what I have!MOTHER: What! Ten pounds? Fifteen pounds?Surely not twenty pounds!JACK: Even better, mum!Jack opens his hand.MOTHER: Beans? My naughty boy, go straight tobed!Scene IIJack wakes up.JACK: Yawn!Jack looks out of the window and sees the beanstalk.JACK: Wow! I’ve never seen that before!!!!!!Jack gets out of bed, opens the window and climbs out.JACK: This goes on forever! (Jack pants). Finally, I’mhere!Jack walks along the road.JACK (to himself): Who is that enormous woman?GIANTESSE: Pardon me! I’m an Ogre!JACK: I-I-I am sorry.GIANTESSE: Anyway, what are you doing here?JACK: I saw a beanstalk in my garden. I climbed itand ended up here. Do you have cornflakes or porridge?GIANTESSE: We have porridge, but no cornflakes.Jack goes inside and eats his porridge.GIANTESSE: Oh, look! He’s coming! Hide in theoven!GIANT: FEE, FI, FO, FUM, I smell the blood of anEnglish man!GIANTESSE: Deary, you must be dreaming!
