These children would range in agefrom 12-17 years of age. They would have a history of multiple referrals (2+) to thedepartment and multiple detentions (2+). They would be identified as presenting withnegative peer associations as well as limited access to positive role models.BRAZOS $153,300.00Program Name:Status:Type:Program Description:Recidivism Reduction ProgramNewWrap Around ProgramUsing Grant C funds allocated to Brazos County Juvenile Services, two ProbationOfficer positions and one Probation Officer Assistant position will be added to theDepartment. Staff members placed into these positions will work together as a teamassisting with supervision of specific probationers who are identified as havingsignificant risk factors that indicate the likelihood to recidivate.During the intake process, juveniles are formally assessed using the Case ManagementInventory. Once adjudicated and placed onto court-ordered probation, juveniles areassigned a Probation Officer. If a juvenile is identified by the Case ManagementInventory to be a significant risk to recidivate, then the Recidivism Reduction Teamwill work with the child, the child’s family, and with the child’s assigned ProbationOfficer in order to provide an increased level of supervision, intervention and care.The Recidivism Team will spend much of their time in the field (school, community,home) assisting the child’s Probation Officer to ensure the child’s risk/need factors arebeing properly addressed. The Recidivism Reduction Team will serve as a type ofinternal “wrap around” program and will work to help ensure that needed services areprovided to the child.CAMERON $204,400.00Program Name:Status:Type:Program Description:A.R.M.Y.ExpandedDay Boot CampThe Academy for the Rehabilitation and Motivation of Youth program is a communitybased model designed by the Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department. TheAcademy for the Rehabilitation and Motivation of Youth Program is a Day Academythat will addresses the needs of students ages ten through seventeen who havecommitted detainable offenses and whom it has been determined would benefit fromthis program. Academy for the Rehabilitation and Motivation of Youth will address theneeds of students by providing for the student’s education, while also teachingteamwork, discipline, and life skills; thus instilling a sense of pride and self discipline inthese youthful offenders. The schedule of program activities is from 7 am til 8pm five days a week. Activitiesinclude mandatory basic education classes, anger management, substance abuse,vocational trade skills, character education curriculum, Ropes and/or physical trainingsessions. The parents of the participants will also be mandated to attend a parentmanagement curriculum known as the Parent Project. The length of the program shallbe the average of six months which will include Phases. Juveniles' progress will beperiodically assessed through a point system and level of progress.Program participants will be attired in a special uniform for enhancement of selfesteem and struture within the program. Participants must meet physical and mentalstandards as screened through the local medical health authority.The Academy for the Rehabilitation and Motivation of Youth Program will protect thecommunity from delinquency, impose accountability for offenses committed,reinforce a successful educational experience, instill within its participants theimportance of self discipline, and equip juvenile offenders with the requiredcompetencies to succeed.
