In USA and Canada licence is required for application of protein in <strong>fish</strong> <strong>products</strong> and new<br />
<strong>products</strong> need to go through a certification process. As an example, FDA 2 has commented on<br />
the GRAS 3 status of certain extracted <strong>fish</strong> proteins for injection into <strong>fish</strong> fillets of the same<br />
species. 4 Regulations in EEA 5 are not as explicit in this regard; however one can expect the<br />
same to apply there.<br />
Regulations on <strong>fish</strong> based ingredients follow in main lines general application and labelling<br />
requirements for ingredients, whether they are used as basic ingredients or functional<br />
ingredients.<br />
