There are many examples <strong>of</strong> outstanding initiatives by front linepolice <strong>of</strong>ficers, and the Police Service has been favoured with numerous awards for crimeprevention and problem solving at the national and international level.Remaining IssuesSome NPTs are functioning as self-directed teams, establishing goals and evaluating achievement.In other Districts, the abstraction <strong>of</strong> NPTs into intelligence-led policing (ILP) projects has retardedtheir evolution and maturity in the role. A method to effectively fuse policing with the communityand Intelligence-led Policing is a work in progress and the new Policing with the CommunityBranch at HQ is tasked with finding solutions. The Policing Board and DPPs will have to monitorprogress in this area to ensure that community interests are met.Recommendation 50: Crime and Complaint Pattern AnalysisPatten Recommendation:50. The Northern Ireland police should, both at a service-wide level and at patrol team level,conduct crime pattern and complaint pattern analysis to provide an information-led, problemsolvingapproach to policing.
