For example, in July,three employees participated in the construction of aschool in Bossangoa, Central African Republic. Thisproject was brought about by the Coup de PouceHumanitaire association, in partnership with theMichel Parisel association and with the support of<strong>Orange</strong> Foundation. It resulted in the construction oftwo new classrooms intended for 80 new children.<strong>France</strong>: in tandem for eyesightThe <strong>Orange</strong> Foundation supported the bicycle race“In tandem for eyesight”, a trip of over 1,000kilometres bringing together 25 tandems comprisingone seeing pilot and a visually impaired racer.Organized by Retina <strong>France</strong>, this event aimed toraise public awareness, promote the sport as a wayof integration for the visually impaired, and raisefunds, allocated entirely to research.This mini “Tour de <strong>France</strong>” went from Angers toClermont-Ferrand in June 2008, in 10 daily legs. Theracers passed four regional headquarters of <strong>France</strong>Telecom, which were involved in the different legs.health and disabilityIn 2008, the Foundation supported 133 projectsconcerning autism (creation of care, training andresearch structures) and the hearing or visuallyimpaired (access to culture, development ofautonomy, and support for the creation of suitabletours at cultural sites).Belgium: Participate!The objective of the “Participate!” association,launched in Belgium in November 2007, is to create asource of reference information on autism.Ten partners are involved in this project, includingtwo autistic children parents‟ associations, sevenuniversity resource centers, and the Mobistarcorporation, a subsidiary of <strong>Orange</strong>.In 2008, Participate! organized a conference entitled“Autism day by day”. Intended for parents, familymembers, and friends of an autistic person, as wellas for autistic persons themselves and professionals,the conference touched on different topics: diagnosis,genetic aspects, behaviour problems, the implicationsin daily life, etc. More than 900 parents and 100specialists attended this initial gathering.Spain: multimedia guide for the hearing impairedEnabling the hearing impaired to visit a museum withcommentary by a guide is the function of “signoguide”,a project supported by Fundación <strong>Orange</strong> inSpain. Like an audio guide, the signo-guide offerscommentary on the main works in a museum, with amultimedia montage in sign language. According tothe Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, the signo–guideservice was inaugurated on May 26, 2008 at theNational Roman Art Museum in Mérida. In November2008, this project received two awards in the “culture”category during the first “Cibermax Awards for theuse of new technologies in the service of CorporateSocial Responsibility,” awarded by theCibervoluntarios Foundation.Fundación <strong>Orange</strong> also finances the “AccessibleCinema” program, which enables the hearing orvisually impaired to go to the movies under the bestconditions, or to view a DVD, thanks to an audiodescription and digital subtitles in color.Côte d’Ivoire: a tour to prevent blindness inAbidjanThe Akwaba Lion‟s Club association has beenfighting against blindness for many years in Abidjan,Côte d‟Ivoire. From August 25 to October 18, 2008,with the support of <strong>Orange</strong> Foundation Côte d‟IvoireTélécom, free screenings were held in many districtsthroughout Abidjan thanks to a mobile ophthalmologyunit. Between 6,000 and 7,000 people were able toundergo screening for eye diseases to preventblindness. People with poor eyesight were also ableto receive treatment.
