A PTC Turnkey Solutionfor AmtrakA Trusted System to LaunchHigh Speed RailIn order to allow high-speed rail operationon the Northeast Corridor (NEC), the FederalRailroad Administration mandated Amtrak toadd enhanced protection functionality to theirsignaling system. The existing 4-aspect cabsignal system did not provide this protection,so in 1997 Alstom’s Advanced Civil SpeedEnforcement System (ACSES) was selected tooperate in Amtrak’s network as they expandedits cab signal to a 9-aspect system.As a result of the project, the solution wasdeployed on three lines of the NEC includingover 50 interlockings and over 400 on boardsystems installed on various types of vehicles.Alstom’s solution provided the mandatoryrequirements for high-speed rail operation andadded new monitoring capability to the overallsystem to ensure safe train separation andenforce “signal” speeds.The ACSES solution hasbeen in operation for over10 years and is still inplace today in the NEC.ACSES is in compliancewith the requirementsand final rule forPositive TrainControl systems as itreliably performs thefunctionalities requiredby the FRA.Only available fullyfunctional PTC solutionwith FRA Type Approval(49CFR236 subpart I)in revenue servicesince 2000.In This Section:ACSESmicroWIUOnboard Computer (OBC)7R Switch Circuit ControllerTrain Life Services17
