Fire ventilation

Flashover has takenplace and the fire is fullydeveloped. There is animminent risk of thefire spreading.direct attack on the fire, since the saving of lives in adjacentrooms must come first. One prerequisite is of course thatthe openings can be closed, which can be difficult or in factimpossible if windows have been broken, or if the roof orwalls have burned up.Other methods that should be taken into considerationcan be filling the fire rooms that are not excessively largewith medium expansion foam, or filling adjacent roomswith high expansion foam.In the case of a fully developed fire, the risks and the problemsare often quite obvious. The fire gases burns in contactwith the air, and the entire fire room is involved. The primarytasks for the rescue services should, apart from saving lives,consist of preventing the spread of the fire and the fire gases.To take into consideration during a fully developed fire:• Observe great care during the choice of outlets, inview of the flames that come out from the fire room.• Have a well-planned and coordinated ventilationand suppression operation, since the supply of airwill increase the intensity of the fire.• Consider alternative methods.110
