obvious reasons. It is mainly a question of securing yourselfwhen working on a ladder, mast or the like.To achieve a larger working area on the roof it is possibleto use a ladder truck as an anchor point for a line, sling or afall protection block.Securing during work without ladder truckAnother common situation is working on roofs where it isnot possible to secure to a ladder truck, or where for practicalreasons it is necessary to leave the ladder or laddertruck in order to work more freely over a larger area. In thiscase an anchor point is needed to fasten the line, sling or fallprotection block. This point must be able to withstand theresulting force if the person should fall. Such an anchorpoint could be a chimney, a roof ladder or a rail.A safe escape route should also be created if possible, forexample by placing and anchoring a ladder on the roof. Asfar as is possible this should be used as a work platform. The actual creation of the opening should be carried outin such a way that there is always a safe escape route. Thefirst cut in a roof should be made away from the work platform(ladder or ladder truck), so that the last cut can bemade while standing on the work platform. It can often be advisable to establish some form of standardoperating procedure when working at high altitudes, the intention being to create a safe escape route and a safework platform.Top left: example ofsecuring during workfrom ladder truck.Top right: exampleof securing duringwork without laddertruck.85
