ARTE is a European cultural public service channel. Subdivided into three main
companies: ARTE France, ARTE Deutschland, and ARTE GEIE, the group
employs staff from France, Germany and other European countries.
In both France and Germany, 95% of funding for the channel comes from
the direct tax on home television sets. The network is not allowed to show
advertising, but may seek additional revenue from other sources, in particular,
corporate patronage.
With its Europe-wide reach, ARTE has also developed a range of successful
partnerships for co-production and exchange of programmes with the major
European public service broadcasters.
