Label company
expands to Russia
CCL Industries, a producer of specialty
packaging and labelling for
the consumer products and healthcare
markets, has created a newly named
label company, CCL-Kontur, that will
service the territories of Russia and
other CIS countries.
The new company is jointly owned
by CCL Label and Ilgar Mamedov, an
entrepreneur in the Russian label
industry. Ilgar Mamedov has contributed
the assets of two label businesses
into the new company: Kontur
Plus based in a new facility in Moscow,
and Asterix, based in St. Petersburg.
CCL-Kontur had sales of approximately
USD26m in 2007. CCL is
investing approximately USD16m to
acquire a 50 percent interest in these
assets and to provide funding for additional
capacity related investments.
With headquarters in Toronto,
Canada, CCL Industries employs
5,200 people and operates 51 production
facilities in North America,
Europe, Latin America and Asia. CCL
manufactures pressure sensitive, shrinksleeve
and in mould labels, aluminium
containers and plastic tubes for leading
global companies in the home and personal
care, healthcare and specialty
food and beverage markets.

Hungarian plastics
plant to open
Chesapeake Corporation, an international
supplier of paperboard,
plastic and pharmaceutical packaging,
recently dedicated its new plastic packaging
plant in Peremarton, Hungary,
which serves specialty chemical customers.
The new plant is a joint venture
formed last year between Chesapeake
and Chemark Termelö és Kereskedö
Kft., a pesticide formulating company
based in Hungary. The joint venture,
Chesapeake Plastics Kft., supplies customers
including Chemark and
Syngenta Crop Protection and is targeting
prospective specialty chemical plastic
packaging customers in central and

built in Saransk
As part of a major investement programme,
Segezha Packaging has
started construction of a new sack production
plant in Saransk in Central
Russia. The EUR21m plant will have a
capacity of up to 400 million sacks per
year. The project will create 300 jobs.
The focus of the plant will be sacks
for the building industry. The plant will
be equipped with three production lines
and a pre-printer from Windmöller &
Hölscher.
‘The location of the plant was not
chosen by chance,’ says Daniel
Matyukhin, general manager of Segezha
Packaging for CIS. ‘The new operations
