Detailed Hardware/Software Design & ProcurementBased on the functional specification, theproject engineering team proceeds with fourmain tasks:Software DesignControl engineers use tool and utilitysoftware to configure the level 1 controllerlogic, sequencing, and drives. The adjacentillustration shows a typical function blockdiagram with logic in relay format. Theconfigurations are loaded into the controllersin the test lab.Process models for each mill function aredesigned, configured, and put into the level2 computers.Operator Screen DesignOperator interface screens are designed,configured, and loaded into the pulpit HMIsand panel mounted touch screens.Hardware DesignAll equipment is specified per the projectrequirements, and the power distributionsystem is designed.
