The <strong>Msukaligwa</strong> <strong>Municipality</strong> published a notice in the local newspaper informing and inviting the community toattend various ward committee meetings. The purpose of these meetings was to do a ward assessment for thedevelopment of the <strong>Msukaligwa</strong> IDP, which includes the drafting of Ward Development Plans.The aim of the public meetings scheduled as part of the IDP Analysis Phase was:• to report back on the progress made in terms of the implementation of projectsand plans contained in the previous IDP and• to re-assess the needs of the community. This is important in order to align thestrategies and programmes contained in the IDP with the ever-changingenvironment and needs of the community.• to re-prioritise the importance of the projects.• to align the IDP priorities with the budget of the <strong>Municipality</strong> as well as the PGDS, Millennium Targets, Stateof the Nation and Province’s addresses.• to identify new needs and projects.• To develop programmes in realizing the five flagship projects of the ProvinceWARD ASSESMENT – DEVELOPMENT STATUSAll ward <strong>Co</strong>uncillors have been provided with a Ward Development Assessment – Development Statusquestionnaire in order to conduct the assessment of the wards in a structured manner and to ensure that all theward committees use the same frame of reference.Ward assessment surveys have been conducted for each ward through the Ward <strong>Co</strong>uncillor and its Ward<strong>Co</strong>mmittee. The aim of the ward development surveys is to determine the following:- Status of development within each ward.- To assess the community needs through a community participation process.- To determine the priority of the needs in terms of the importance of development projects for the wardspecific community.The ultimate aim is to develop a Ward Development Plan for each ward addressing the ward specific needs andpriorities. All information emanating from the ward surveys will not only be captured in the ward developmentplan but will also become part of the <strong>Msukaligwa</strong> IDP.<strong>Msukaligwa</strong> <strong>Municipality</strong>: Integrated Development Plan 2007/2011 9
