It was ash<strong>or</strong>t but intenseseason f<strong>or</strong> therunners thatresulted with asuccessful finishat provincials.One of thehighlights ofthe season wasthe weekendtrip to Duluth,Minnesota thatoccurred onThanksgivingweekend.T h eteam left theschool earlyFriday m<strong>or</strong>ning and arrived inDuluth in the evening along withcoaches Mr McMillan and <strong>St</strong>. Paul’sgrad Erik Sproll. After the runnersmet up with Mr <strong>St</strong>adnyk who wasalso in attendance, they went f<strong>or</strong> ateam meal the nightbef<strong>or</strong>e the race.It was an earlyrise the next m<strong>or</strong>ning.The Cru set off f<strong>or</strong> thehuge American crosscountry race whichconsisted of hundredsof both varsity andjuni<strong>or</strong> varsity runners.Shiloh Johnson ledthe varsity teamwith a fifteenth placefinish, which wasgood enough f<strong>or</strong>a medal. After thedaylong event in thecold weather, the<strong>St</strong>. Paul’s boys wereable to return to thehotel f<strong>or</strong> a relaxingnight and left bright and earlySunday m<strong>or</strong>ning f<strong>or</strong> the long tripback to Winnipeg.Overall, the Duluth tripCrusader Sp<strong>or</strong>tsCross Country Domination<strong>St</strong>. Paul’s finishes strong after coming back from Duluthis always a great experience. Uphere in Manitoba, our races are notnearly as big as the ones in America.The team got to experience what areal cross country race is like. It wasJV Crusaders hold up their championship banner. This is the JV’s tenthtitle in eleven years.huge and very professionally done.The results were even rec<strong>or</strong>dedelectronically so exact results couldbe tracked. The race was somethingthat could not have been experiencedif it were not f<strong>or</strong> the dedication ofThe Varsity team lines up bef<strong>or</strong>e the gun.Coach McMillan who put his fulleff<strong>or</strong>t into running the event.Upon returning to Winnipeg,the cross country team had a week-and-a-half left to train bef<strong>or</strong>eprovincials. The runners were attheir prime going into provincialswhich were held on the 17 th ofOctober. The day of the final racewas cold andrainy, but theCrusaders setoff early on theWednesday withthe intentionof placing inboth the juni<strong>or</strong>varsity andvarsity division.T h ejuni<strong>or</strong> varsityteam finishedfirst in theprovince. Theteam was ledby grade ninerunner WillKoltek whoplaced 7 thoverall. Closebehind him wasJames Teschukin 11th andGraham Lock15th. To bring home the bannerSimon Meier and Christian Johnstonboth ran spectacular races. This wasthe tenth time in eleven years thatthe juni<strong>or</strong> varsity team won theprovincial championship.The varsityCrusaders finishedsecond in the province.The team was led byShiloh Johnson whofinished third overall.Close behind him wasEvan Pfrimmer whoplaced 13 th . Great raceswere also ran by NeilRedpath, Ben B<strong>or</strong>ysand Nick Leskiw toclaim second place inprovincials.Overall itwas an enjoyable andsuccessful seasonf<strong>or</strong> the Crusaders.The runners putin their best eff<strong>or</strong>tthroughout the yearand the result was a successfulseason f<strong>or</strong> the <strong>St</strong>. Paul’s crosscountry team.11
