Volume 66, Issue 2 October 31, 2012The Crusaders were looking tobounce back against the numberone ranked Grant Park Pirates in theweek 6 home game. The Crusaderscame out strong in the first half withthe defence stopping the strongGrant Park running game. At halfthe sc<strong>or</strong>e remained seven all. Thesecond half, the Crusader defencebegan struggling with the Pirates’run game. The offence was able toput up another seven points but itwasn’t enough f<strong>or</strong> the vict<strong>or</strong>y. TheCrusaders lost 38-14. The Crusadersprepared to face the big MaplesMarauders in the last week ofKurt KolsunContribut<strong>or</strong>The JV Football team havea giant task ahead of them as theyhead into their semifinalgame against theOak Park Raiders onOct 30. The team beatthe Grant Park Pirateslast week 42-21 duringtheir quarter-final game,held here at the schoolon Connolly Field.The Crusaders startedoff with a shaky startwhich let the Piratesget comf<strong>or</strong>table on thefield. It was tied untilthe Crusaders startedto m<strong>or</strong>e comf<strong>or</strong>table onthe field and broke thetie with a couple bigtouchdowns and neverlooked back from there.This was the first ever high schoolfootball playoff game f<strong>or</strong> virtuallythe whole team and showed poiseplaying the game. Even though theteam had played well against thePirates, the Crusaders will once againhave to raise their level of play asCrusader Sp<strong>or</strong>tsregular season. An early touchdownreception by Matt McDonald had theCrusaders off to a good start. Aftersc<strong>or</strong>ing 21 points in the first half theCrusaders had sealed and early lead.With no touchdowns being sc<strong>or</strong>edby either team in the second halfthe final sc<strong>or</strong>e remained 21-2 f<strong>or</strong> theCrusaders. The Crusaders finishedthe season with five wins and threelosses, which set them up to play theRiver East Kodiaks f<strong>or</strong> the secondtime. The Crusaders Defence comeout strong holding the Kodiaksfrom reaching the end zone, but theoffence came out slow in the firstJV Football Makes it to Semisthey play an older and experiencedOak Park Raiders team.The Oak Park Raiders playedthe Crusaders early on in the seasonand beat them by a large marginand will be looking to do it again.The Crusaders although, are adifferent team now than they wereat the beginning of the season andwill be looking f<strong>or</strong> a little payback.This definitely won’t be an easyCru Puck B Makes Hist<strong>or</strong>yJ<strong>or</strong>dan SinderEdit<strong>or</strong>-In-ChiefOver the past weekend,the Crusader’s Hockey Team#2 participated in the <strong>St</strong>urgeonHeights Husky Classic, an annualhigh school hockey tournament.Unf<strong>or</strong>tunately, the Crusaders losttheir first two games in roundrobinplay. In result, they were putinto the consolation side of thetournament. After dominating theGarden City Gophers by a sc<strong>or</strong>e of5-2, the Crusaders advanced to theconsolation final where they met theCarman Cougars. The final sc<strong>or</strong>ewas 4-1 in favour of the Crusaders.half. However, in the second half,the Crusader offence found strengthin their running game and were ableto march down the field, setting up atouchdown pass to Marko Klimenko.Unf<strong>or</strong>tunately the Crusaders werenot able to put any m<strong>or</strong>e points onthe board leaving the final sc<strong>or</strong>eto be 14-6 f<strong>or</strong> the Kodiaks. TheCrusaders season ended earlierthan hoped, but they put up a fightright to the end. Thank you to allthe trainers, players, volunteers andespecially coaches f<strong>or</strong> such a greatseason.game f<strong>or</strong> the team, but they havecome together as a team and havestarted to really produce on the fieldbecause of both a strong offensiveand defensive outputonto the field. The teamhas had a good couple ofpractices even with thecold and uncomf<strong>or</strong>tableweather; the coacheshave been somewhatpleased with the amountof focus that the playersare putting into thepractices. With all of thisbeing said, the Crusaderswill be looking to carrytheir momentum fromthe quarter-final gameinto this rivalry playoffgame against the Raidersand give themselves achance to play f<strong>or</strong> theHome Run Sp<strong>or</strong>ts BowlChampionship. Even though theteam has little playoff experience,they have the confidence and thebelief in themselves and theirteammates that they can achievethis goal.The Cru Puck B team was awardeda ‘Consolation Champions’ plaque,marking the first piece of hardwarein the team’s hist<strong>or</strong>y. The Crusaderswill now prepare f<strong>or</strong> the toughcompetition they plan face in theUS starting November 15th.9
