News from LSTCAlbert H. Keck Jr., LSTC’s oldest alumnus,dies at 102The Rev. Dr. Albert H. Keck Jr., a 1934 graduate ofChicago Lutheran Theological Seminary, died peacefullyin his sleep at the Lutheran Home in Hickory,N.C., on July 13. He was 102 years old.Pastor Keck’s long and distinguished careerbegan in 1934, when he was ordained and servedas pastor at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sterling, Ill.He served two other parishes in North Carolina andtaught practical theology, homiletics and liturgics atLutheran Theological Southern Seminary. He retiredin 1976, but supplied at 75 different congregationsfrom 1977 to 1993. He was a gifted pastor, professor,author, and friend of many.Pastor Keck served on a number of boards,including Chicago Lutheran Theological Seminaryand Lenoir-Rhyne College. He was a member of theconstituting convention of the Lutheran Churchin America (LCA), the Commission on Worshipof the United Lutheran Church in America, theCommission on the Ministry of the LCA, and theBoard of Publication of the LCA. He was a memberof the first board of the Catawba County Associationfor Special Education and an organizer of theCooperative Christian Ministry of Greater Hickoryand the Lutheran Home in Hickory.A memorial service was held on July 15 at St.Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Hickory. Pastor Keckwas preceded in death by his wife of nearly 70 years,Virginia “Ginny” Rhodes and their son, Timothy.
