News from LSTCAlbert H. Keck Jr., LSTC’s oldest alumnus,dies <strong>at</strong> 102The Rev. Dr. Albert H. Keck Jr., a 1934 gradu<strong>at</strong>e <strong>of</strong>Chicago Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Theological Seminary, died peacefullyin his sleep <strong>at</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Home in Hickory,N.C., on July 13. He was 102 years old.Pastor Keck’s long and distinguished careerbegan in 1934, when he was ordained and servedas pastor <strong>at</strong> St. John’s Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Church, Sterling, Ill.He served two o<strong>the</strong>r parishes in North Carolina andtaught practical <strong>the</strong>ology, homiletics and liturgics <strong>at</strong>Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Theological Sou<strong>the</strong>rn Seminary. He retiredin 1976, but supplied <strong>at</strong> 75 different congreg<strong>at</strong>ionsfrom 1977 to 1993. He was a gifted pastor, pr<strong>of</strong>essor,author, and friend <strong>of</strong> many.Pastor Keck served on a number <strong>of</strong> boards,including Chicago Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Theological Seminaryand Lenoir-Rhyne College. He was a member <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>constituting convention <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Churchin America (LCA), <strong>the</strong> Commission on Worship<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> United Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Church in America, <strong>the</strong>Commission on <strong>the</strong> Ministry <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> LCA, and <strong>the</strong>Board <strong>of</strong> Public<strong>at</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> LCA. He was a member<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> first board <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> C<strong>at</strong>awba County Associ<strong>at</strong>ionfor Special Educ<strong>at</strong>ion and an organizer <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Cooper<strong>at</strong>ive Christian Ministry <strong>of</strong> Gre<strong>at</strong>er Hickoryand <strong>the</strong> Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Home in Hickory.A memorial service was held on July 15 <strong>at</strong> St.Andrew’s Lu<strong>the</strong>ran Church, Hickory. Pastor Keckwas preceded in de<strong>at</strong>h by his wife <strong>of</strong> nearly 70 years,Virginia “Ginny” Rhodes and <strong>the</strong>ir son, Timothy.
