THE NATURE OF GOD AND CHRISTDoctrinal Study Paperthe Son from God the Father; for the Father has committed all judgment to the Son. Note,He that is the Savior will be the destroyer of those that reject the salvation. 71Genesis 19:24 must also be viewed in the context of Christ’s statement in John 1:18, “Noone has seen God at any time.” This is repeated by John 5:37. If John could state in the firstcentury that no one had seen God at any time, then with whom was Abraham speaking, walkingand eating in Genesis 18? The Scriptures clearly state that Abraham was doing all these thingswith YHWH. If there is but one being identified as God and no one has seen Him at any time, there is a dilemma. The dilemma is cleared up when one comes to understand that the YHWHwho appeared to Abraham was the one who became Jesus Christ and He came to reveal theFather.71 Matthew Henry, Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible, Crosswalk.com, 1995-2004.Page 68September 2005© 2005 United Church of God, an International Association
