Re-structuring Manali 261 REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL PLANThe Regional Environmental plan for Manali should provide for developmentalguidelines.The proposed Regional Environmental Plan for Manali to comprise of thefollowing policy guidelines:· Land Management· Ecotourism· Solid Waste Management· Sustainable construction· Transport· Energy· Water Conservation· Economic Regeneration and growth· Ecological RegenerationIn addition, there will be separate aspect-wise plans· Urban Forest management Plan· Watershed management PlanLAND MANAGEMENT POLICYHills have considerable development potential because of the views andattractive setting they provide. However, hill slopes are prone to environmentalhazards such as soil erosion and landslide as is evident from past incidences,resulting in loss of lives and property. This is always aggravated by improperhuman intervention. Future management decisions on hill slopes developmentshould also be based on the principles of sustainable development.Development on hill slopes shall be based on the following principles:· To maintain as well as to conserve important and sensitive hill areas inManali to support Sustainable development· To plan and implement prudently all development activities on hill slopesin order to minimized adverse impacts, and to conserve the physical,biological and cultural values of these areas as well as to maintain thenatural landscapesECOTOURISM POLICY· To promote ecotourism within the region.· Incorporation of sites of tourist importance, both natural and manmadeheritage.
