E.LocalIreceiving set here described isone which was built after a few weeks'experimenting with loop aerial sets,and it is primarily designed for receptionfrom broadcasting stationsthat are not over a hundred miles away.This set has operated satisfactorily, signalsbeing clear and loud, while it was being carriedaround the house. As the detector tube usedis a i^-volt tube, the set may be made verycompact and may therefore be used as a portableoutfit which will prove convenient wherea ground connection cannot easily be made.A feature of this set that is a little unusualis the double loop aerial, one loop being used asa regular loop aerial and the other being used asa tickler coil. The diagonals for the frame consistof two pieces of dry wood 2^ x | x 18 inches,mortised at the centre and mounted as shownin the accompanying diagram (Fig. i). Twosets of binding posts are mounted on the faceof the frame as shown. The loop aerial properconsists of 15 turns of No. 20 D. C. C. magnetwire spaced one eighth of an inch apart andthe ends ofheld in place by saw cuts made inthe diagonals. The ends of the wire should
