The Lesson to be learned from what happened to Those WhoCame beforeAllah informs that,أَفَلَمْ‏ یَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ‏ فَيَنظُرُوا آَيْفَ‏ آَانَ‏ عَاقِبَةُ‏ ال َّذِینَ‏ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ‏ آَانُواأَآْثَرَ‏ مِنْهُمْ‏ وَأَشَد َّ قُو َّةً‏ وَآثَارًا فِي الْأَرْضِ‏ فَمَا أَغْنَى عَنْهُم م َّا آَانُوایَكْسِبُونَ‏...95﴾ ٨٢﴿فَلَم َّا جَاءتْهُمْ‏ رُسُلُهُم بِالْبَي ِّنَاتِ‏ فَرِحُوا بِمَا عِندَهُم م ِّنَ‏ الْعِلْمِ‏Have they not traveled through the earth and seen whatwas the end of those before them? They were more innumber than them and mightier in strength, and in thetraces in the land; yet all that they used to earn availedthem not.Then when their Messengers came to them with clearproofs, they were glad (and proud) with that which theyhad of the knowledge (of worldly things).Allah tells us about the nations who rejected theirMessengers in ancient times. He mentioned thesevere punishment they suffered despite theirgreat strength, He mentioned the traces whichthey left behind in the earth and the great wealththey amassed. None of that availed themanything and could not prevent the punishment ofAllah at all.That is because when the Messengers came tothem with clear signs and decisive evidence, theydid not pay any attention to them. Instead, theywere content with the knowledge with them, or sothey claimed, and they said that they did notneed what the Messengers brought them.Mujahid said,"They said, we know better than them, we willnot be resurrected and we will not be punished.''As-Suddi said,"In their ignorance, they rejoiced in what theyhad of (worldly) knowledge.
