TRAFFIC CIRCULATION AND SAFETYGOALImprove the flow of traffic while maintaining vehicular speeds.OBJECTIVES1.) Review vehicular traffic network for traffic calming measures; 2.) Evaluate traffic signage to improvevehicular traffic flow; 3.) Improve pedestrian and bicycle safety as it relates to vehicular traffic.RECOMMENDED ACTION RESPONSIBLEAGENT1. Conduct traffic calmingstudy and establish taskforce to work with the CityEngineering Department toinstall traffic calmingmeasures, includingplacement of stop signs,where warrants are met.2. Increase traffic enforcementas staffing allows, includingpresence along EastAvenue when SarasotaHigh School day begins andends.3. Monitor illegal parking onthe 1300 block of BriggsStreet and the 2700 block ofProspect Street. Evaluatethese streets for “NoParking” signage and installwhere necessary.4. Utilize “Smart Trailer” atstreets where speeding is aconcern. Such streets willinclude Prospect, Floyd,Arlington, Hyde Park, EastAvenue, and other locationswhere speeding is anongoing issue.5. Highlight existing and futuretraffic calming devices bypossibly installing redcoloredreflectors or flowersto increase visibility.8. Install traffic circle at theintersection of TempleStreet & School Avenue.9. Install additional speed limitsigns on streets wherenecessary and install 20MPH speed limit sign onHyde Park Street,adjacent to Park.10. Install “No Thru-Trucks”signs on streets whereneeded.11. Ensure “Dead End”/”NoOutlet” signs are placed atall appropriate streets.12. Install “Pedestrian Crossing”sign and striped crosswalkat Floyd Street & EuclidAvenue intersection toincrease visibility ofArlington Park pedestrianpath connection.13. Install striped crosswalks atEast Avenue & WaldemereStreet intersection.14.
