APPENDIX B — Existing Neighborhood Conditions Data Dictionary and MapsThe “Neighborhood Conditions Survey” is a tool used to obtain a detailed image of theneighborhood’s overall conditions. The survey consists of seventeen questionsdesigned to evaluate a property’s building, landscaping, and surrounding infrastructureconditions. To establish internal validity on both question and response terminology, the student interns referred to the Neighborhood Condition Survey Data Dictionary forspecific criteria on how each parcel should be evaluated accordingly and uniformly. Inorder to visually assess each property, surveyors recorded data on each parcel’sexisting land use, occupancy status, cosmetic appearance, building and structuralconditions, yard conditions, and infrastructure elements such as sidewalks and streetlights. Once the data was collected from the survey site, the information was enteredinto a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) database to produce maps of theneighborhood’s variegated overall conditions (Appendix B1).Arlington Park Neighborhood Action Strategy 75
