Brake Lever (B)Located on left handlebar. When lever isdepressed, the brake is applied. Whenreleased, it automatically returns to itsoriginal position. Braking effect is proportionateto the applied pressure on thelever. 'Ignition Switch (C)Manual start models have key operated2 position switch (OFFION).Electric models (335E and 399E) have aspring loaded contact added, (OFFION ISTART), to activate starter mechanism.Light Switch (D)A push-pull switch located on left ofdashpanel illuminates both headlampand taillight, with engine running (manualstart models), with or without enginerunning (electric models). Pull fully outto illuminate.Choke (E)Two position, (OFFION) dial knob, locatedon lower left side of console. To engagechoke, turn dial clockwise to ONposition. To disengage, turn counterclockwiseto OFF position. The chokeshould always be used for easier coldengine starts. After engine is warmed uphowever, it is not necessary to usechoke when starting.Note: The purpose of the choke is to reducethe amount of air flowing throughthe carburetor, in effect enriching thefuel/air mixture. However, leaving chokeon after engine has started activates carbonformation inside the engine. Therefore,always turn choke knob to OFF,once engine has started. NEVER OPERATE YOUR VEHICLE WITH CHOKE ON.Decompressor (F)(single cylinder models)Two position, (OFFION), push-pull knob,located on left of dashpanel. To engage,pull decompressor knob fully Out.Note: The decompressor provides easierstarting by reducing engine compression.However, leaving decompressorengaged while running will damage yourengine. Use decompressor when starting,but ALWAYS DISENGAGE IMMEDIATELY ENGINE HAS STARTED.Manual Starter (G)Auto-rewind type located on lower rightside of engine. To start engine, pull handle.(See Starting Procedure, page 15).Headlamp Retract Lever (H)Two position, (PUSH/PULL) lever, locatedunder cab, at right of console. To exposeheadlamp pull up into locked position,push to retract. The angle of yourheadlamp beam has been pre-adjustedprior to delivery. Should you wish minorreadjustment however, turn wing nut atbase of headlamp assembly (inside cab),clockwise to lower beam, counter-clockwise.to raise it. For major readjustment,remove bolt on retract lever. Rotate turnbuckle,clockwise to raise beam, counterclockwiseto lower it. Re-install bolt.WARNING: Before starting out or afteradjustments, make sure lever and boltsare securely hooked or fastened.Lighter (J)Standard equipment on Electric models,located on left side of dashpanel. Pushin to activate, lighter pops up automaticallywhen lit.Fuel GaugeGraduated dipstick gauge with screw onfuel tank cap. Unscrew cap and withdrawdipstick to check fuel level.\3/41/21/411
