3.4.2 Module 2: Introduction to Solar EnergyThe objective of the training course on solar energy is to enable the participants to:• have a good understanding of solar energy terminologies, parameters, and units• be able to measure and identify solar energy potential i.e. solar radiation• have a good understanding of the various type of solar energy utilization• be able to select, plan and design a PV system• be able to select, plan and design a solar thermal systemThe Topics covered in Module 2 focused on: solar energy potential; Solar Photovoltaic (PV) or PLTS (Pembangkit Listrik Tenaga Surya): capacity; solar hours;solar cell; Wp capacity; main components of solar PV; battery; price comparison of solarmodules; financing scheme; solar home system; Solar Home Systems (SHS) components andcost estimation; operation and maintenance; Centralized PV; PV hybrid system; Solar thermal: best practices on solar dryers.Several exercises were given in the class include: estimating generated electricity from solar module and lighting duration comparing the prices of solar PV exercises on designing Solar Home System and cost estimation exercises on the use of LED lamp.3.4.3 Module 3: Introduction to Wind energyThe objective of the training course on Wind Energy is to enable the participants to : have a good understanding on terminology, parameters and the units used in wind energy; be able to measure and identify wind energy at one location (speed and direction) and toestimate energy and power that can be generated. be able to select , plan and design wind turbine or wind energy conversion system (SKEA) ata specific location have a good understanding on various use of SKEA: capacity, size, type of use, specificationand power curve. be able to select, plan and design wind turbine / SKEA for electricity, pumping, batterycharging, communication equipment in rural/remote areas be able to estimate the cost of using wind turbine / SKEA for various application.9
