EXECUTIVE SUMMARYTraining of PNPM Facilitators on Appropriate Renewable Energy Solutions for RuralHouseholds was <strong>org</strong>anised by Green PNPM Task Team of the PSF Office and has beenimplemented during April-May 2011 with financial support from Danida. The training wasseries of five (5) provincial/regional training courses in Bengkulu (Bengkulu Province), Medan(for Aceh and North Sumatra Provinces); Manado (for North Sulawesi Province);Makassar(South Sulawesi and South East Sulawesi Provinces); and Bukittinggi (West Sumatra Province).These training courses are expected to strengthen the capacity of Green PNPM facilitators atsub-district and district level, CSO field extension staff, and other relevant stakeholderrepresentatives as applicable; to facilitate decisions by rural target communities on investmentsin solar, wind, hydro, and biomass based renewable energy solutions for rural energy needs.The training course, which is in Bahasa Indonesia titled as ‘Pelatihan Pemanfaatan TeknologiEnergi Terbarukan untuk Masyarakat Perdesaan’, was a combination of lectures delivered byrenewable energy trainers, and followed by one session of discussion on each type of REtechnology. The training also include field visits to relevant renewable energy schemes in arural setting near the training venues. Each training course was conducted in 4,5 days. Theparticipants comprised of: Fasilitator Kecamatan Lingkungan (FKL) and District EnvironmentalSpecial Assistant (Astal) and some CSO local staff coming from each District participating in thetraining course.This report provide details of the implementation of the training courses, comprising asummary of the individual training courses, discussion of the training approaches andtechniques used and specific activities including field excursions. The report also explainsseveral constraints and challenges faced during training, as well as evaluation of courseparticipants’ understanding on the subjects being trained, as well as evaluation of trainers byparticipants. The report also made some recommendations for improving the training coursesin the future.The report concluded that the subjects covered in the training were relatively wide-spread forparticipants since most of the participants had limited background on renewable energy. Somemain constraints faced including: relatively limited time to cover all training material and theknowledge capacity of the training participants. All training materials and subjects should betaught from the basic concepts until implementation, where not only technical aspects areimportant but also sustainability aspects.
