The field trip was conducted to Puntondo Education Center for Environment (PPLH Puntondo)at Desa Takalar, to learn various applications on renewable energy, such as: solar PV, small scalewind turbine, solar cooker, and charcoal briquettes. The visit was focused to learn theapplication of small wind turbine that is used to provide electricity for ten households living atthe Center neighborhood.Constraints and challenges: comments from participantsAs in previous trainings, the main constraint faced by participants was limited time available tolearn comprehensive coverage of renewable energy technologies. The subject on Introduction toRenewable Energy subject was already well delivered, but the material was too much to coverwithin only one hour. Participants wished to have specific training on disseminatinginformation on various applications on renewable energy to rural communities. Regardingsolar energy, the participants found it very useful and they wanted to get extension materialssuch as brochures so they could continue self-learning in more detail. Many participantscommented that wind energy subject is useful, but the time was so limited time to cover thematerial. Regarding microhydro, the participants acknowledge the teaching was excellent, andthey could understand the material well. Regarding biomass energy, the participants found thesubject is useful and the trainer provided an excellent teaching on biogas.4.5 Training Course in BukittinggiTraining course in Bengkulu was attended by 29 trainees, coming from five Kabupaten. Therewere nine trainees participated in this training, from WCS, Wahana Liar, LSP, LASP, and OWT.The field trip was conducted to Biogas Unit at Desa Nagari Salareh Aia, Kab. Agam, WestSumatera. This unit was built by OWT in Green PNPM framework, by involving villagers there.With the guidance of biomass trainer (Mr. Andrias Wiji), the participants learned the making ofbiogas unit and its application to cooking stoves.Constraints and challenges: comments from participantsAs in previous trainings, the main constraint faced by participants was limited time available tolearn comprehensive coverage of renewable energy technologies. The subject on Introduction toRenewable Energy subject was already well delivered, and participants suggested continuingtraining on the subject. Solar energy was delivered very well, but the time is too limited tocover the whole subject. Participants suggested the need for demonstration tool such as a solarPV or solar pump, so they can understand the subject better. Regarding wind energy, although17
