Committee of the Club regard the extra space asked for as of vital importance <strong>to</strong> the maintenance of the increasedpopularity of the Club, and that the Trustees are prepared <strong>to</strong> pay some acknowledgement if the Board will grant theapplication.Shalesbrook Alleged PollutionBeing questioned with regard <strong>to</strong> a complaint made by Major Bond that the Shalesbrook is polluted by oil washeddown from the mo<strong>to</strong>r stand, Mr. Godley states that it is quite impossible for the Shalesbrook <strong>to</strong> be so pollutedowing <strong>to</strong> its distance from the mo<strong>to</strong>r stand and the method of discharging oil which he contends is filtered beforereaching the Shalesbrook.R.A.F. Golf Club Extension Of Mo<strong>to</strong>r StandThe Club representatives having withdrawn ********. It is proposed by Mr. Freshfield and seconded by AdmiralSir Stanley Colville that a revocable license be granted <strong>to</strong> use the enlarged area as per plan on the same terms ashere<strong>to</strong>fore subject <strong>to</strong> the payment of annual acknowledgement of £ 1: 1: 0 each <strong>to</strong> the Lord and the Board ofConserva<strong>to</strong>rs, and <strong>to</strong> payment of the Clerk’s proper charges for preparing and completing the License andCounterpart the works <strong>to</strong> be carried out <strong>to</strong> the satisfaction of the <strong>Forest</strong> Row Committee.Sir Francis Champneys moves and Mr. Follett seconds an amendment that the annual acknowledgements be £ 2:10: 0 each instead of £ 1: 1: 0. The amendment being put two vote for and nine against it and is declared lost.The original motion is then put and carried.Major Bond, Complaint Of Pollution Of ShalesbrookThe Board then consider the complaint from Major Bond as <strong>to</strong> the pollution of the Shalesbrook and it is resolvedthat he be informed that the Board require further evidence in support of his complaint before they can take anyaction.Leggs Heath Farm Limited, WaterpipeThe Clerk produces a plan showing the position in which it is desired <strong>to</strong> lay a two inch water pipe under <strong>Forest</strong> landfrom the Southern end of Kidbrooke Lane <strong>to</strong> Leggs Hatch Farm and a letter from Messrs. Whitley Hughes &Luscombe, the Solici<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> the applicant, stating that the application is not for the purpose of developing theproperty for a building estate, but <strong>to</strong> supply the present property with the possible addition of one small dwellinghouse.It is resolved Mr. Follett assenting on behalf of the Lord that a revocable license in the usual form be granted <strong>to</strong> theLeggs Heath Farm Ltd. <strong>to</strong> lay and maintain a two inch water pipe in the position indicated on the plan for thepurpose only of the limited supply indicated subject <strong>to</strong> the payment of yearly acknowledgements of £ 1: 1: 0 each <strong>to</strong>the Lord and Conserva<strong>to</strong>rs and <strong>to</strong> payment of the Clerk’s proper charges for preparing and completing the licenseand a counterpart thereof. Subject <strong>to</strong> the foregoing it is resolved that the acts proceedings and recommendations ofthe <strong>Forest</strong> Row Committee as set out in their report be approved and confirmed.Military ManoeuvresThe Clerk reports that on 29 th July last he received from the War Office an urgent application for permission <strong>to</strong>train 2,000 or 3,000 troops on the <strong>Forest</strong> from the 23 rd inst <strong>to</strong> the 16 th September next undertaking not <strong>to</strong> digtrenches etc and not <strong>to</strong> manoeuvre over the golf links and <strong>to</strong> take all precautions against fire, and beat out any thatmight occur in the vicinity. After communicating with the Chairman of the Board, the Chairman of the DistrictCommittees and Mr. Follett representing the Lord, the Clerk granted the permission applied for.It is resolved that the action of the Clerk be confirmed.Military ExcavationsRanger Kirby having reported early in July last that the Royal Engineers from Crowborough Camp were diggingtrenches and constructing dugouts on the <strong>Forest</strong>, the Clerk reports that he wrote <strong>to</strong> the Commanding Officerpointing out that no authority had been granted for the purpose and that the excavations constituted a seriousdanger <strong>to</strong> the cattle of the Commoners. The Commanding Officer stated that he was acting under an order issuedby Head Quarters. After some correspondence the work ceased and the excavations were filled up.
