The Annual Meeting of the Commoners interested in <strong>Ashdown</strong> <strong>Forest</strong> duly convened by the Clerk bynotice on the principal door of the Church of each of the Parishes and Ecclesiastical Districts in<strong>to</strong> whichthe <strong>Forest</strong> extends, by advertisements in two newspapers circulating in the neighbourhood, <strong>to</strong> wit, “TheSussex Express” & “The Sussex Daily News at least fourteen days before this date and by notice sent bypost <strong>to</strong> each Commoner, and held at the Nutley Inn at Nutley, on Wednesday the 17 th day of December1924 at eleven o’ clock of the forenoon.PresentMr. Geo. WatersChairmanOn the proposition of Mr. Edward Martin seconded by Mr. Robert Kenward, Mr. Maryon –Wilson is chosenChairman and he having taken the Chair the Clerk reads the notice convening the Meeting and reports the duepublication and notice thereof as above mentioned.The <strong>Minute</strong>s of the last Meeting of Commoners are then read and confirmed.Election of Conserva<strong>to</strong>rsThe Clerk reports that the Conserva<strong>to</strong>rs who retire by rotation on the 31 st instant are Mr. Douglas WilliamFreshfield, Mr. Edward Martin, Sir Francis M. Champneys Bart and Mr. Thomas Osborne.Captain Beamish ResignationThe Chairman states that since the notices convening this Meeting were issued he has received a letter from CaptainBeamish M.P. stating that in consequence of his election <strong>to</strong> Parliament and the heavy work that it involves he isreluctantly compelled <strong>to</strong> resign the office of a Conserva<strong>to</strong>r in consequence of which it will be necessary <strong>to</strong> elect afifth Conserva<strong>to</strong>r <strong>to</strong> take his place.The Chairman then invites nominations <strong>to</strong> fill the vacancies occasioned by the retirement by rotation of the fourConserva<strong>to</strong>rs.It is proposed by C.J. Colville seconded by Mr. Kenward that Mr. Douglas William Freshfield be re-elected aConserva<strong>to</strong>r.It is proposed by Mr. James Card and seconded by Mr. Follett that Mr. Edward Martin be re-elected a Conserva<strong>to</strong>r.It is proposed by Mr. Edward Martin seconded by Mr. Thomas Osborne that Sir Francis M. Champneys be reelecteda Conserva<strong>to</strong>r.It is proposed by Mr. Mitchell seconded by Mr. Follett that Mr. Thomas Osborne be re-elected a Conserva<strong>to</strong>r.No other Commoner having been proposed <strong>to</strong> fill the first mentioned four vacancies the Chairman declares theabove four gentlemen duly elected Conserva<strong>to</strong>rs for the insuing three years ending the 31 st December, 1927.The Chairman then invites nominations <strong>to</strong> fill the vacancy occasioned by the resignation of Captain Beamish.
