The Committee urges the State party to implement its National Planfor the Eradication of Slave Labour and to undertake urgent measuresin this regard, especially through the imposition of effective penalties.48. The Committee calls upon the State party to ensure that the minimumwage enables workers and their families to enjoy an adequate standardof living.49. The Committee urges the State party to take legal action against thosewho are responsible for committing crimes against landless farmersand members of trade unions and to take effective and preventivemeasures to insure protection to all farmers and members of tradeunions.50. In light of the indication given by the State party that the reform ofthe social security system foresees an improved role for the State infundamental areas of social development, the Committee recommendsto the State party in this regard that the social security system and thesocial development measures take into account the needs of disadvantagedand marginalized groups.51. The Committee requests the State party to undertake legislative andother measures, including a review of its present legislation, to protectwomen from the effects of clandestine and unsafe abortion and toinsure that women do not resort to such harmful procedures. TheCommittee requests the State party to provide in its next periodicreport detailed information, based on comparative data, about maternalmortality and abortion in Brazil.52. The Committee calls upon the State party to repeal all discriminatoryprovisions contained in the Penal Code, in particular article 215.53. The Committee calls upon the State party to take all effective measures,including the enforcement of existing legislation and the extensionof national awareness campaigns, to eliminate all forms ofviolence against women. The Committee also recommends that theState party insure that the police are trained to handle violence againstwomen in addition to the “delegacies da mulher” in all parts of thecountry.113
