Bangladeshsuch as translation of the Convention into the national language, thedistribution of the Convention to relevant authorities and media campaigns. However, the Committee remains concerned that the publicawareness of the Convention remains low and that many relevantauthorities, for instance within the juvenile justice system, do notreceive adequate training on children’s rights.25. The Committee recommends that the State party strengthen its awareness-raisingefforts through, inter alia, systematic education and trainingon the rights of the child for all professional groups working forand with children, in particular parliamentarians, judges, lawyers, lawenforcement officials, civil servants, municipal workers, personnelworking in institutions and places of detention for children, teachers, health personnel, including psychologists, social workers, religiousleaders, as well as children and their parents. The Committee furtherrecommends that the State party translate the Convention into the languagesof tribal peoples.2. Definition of the child26. The Committee is concerned about the various legal minimum ages, which are inconsistent, discriminatory and/or too low. The Committeeis also deeply concerned at the fact that the Majority Act 1875, settingthe age of majority at 18 years, has no effect “on the capacity of anyperson in relation to marriage, dowry, divorce and adoption or on thereligion and religious customs of any citizen” (CRC/C/65/Add.22,para. 45). The Committee is particularly concerned at the very lowage of criminal responsibility (7 years).27. The Committee strongly recommends that the State party:(a) Raise the minimum age of criminal responsibility to an internationallyacceptable level;(b) Fix a minimum age for admission to employment, in line withinternationally accepted standards;(c) Ensure that domestic legislation on minimum ages is respectedand implemented throughout the country.45
