Alokpa 4Alokpa is a fashion contest for young African stylists, part of a weekof fashion shows held in Togo’s capital city, Lomé, along with relatedexhibitions and debates that promote excellence and originality inAfrican fashion design. Founded in 2001 by Togolese stylist Nini Nicoueof Eamod-Ayanick-Créations, Alokpa scouts for new talent, gives impetusto the continental fashion industry by valorising innovative design andhigh quality technical skills, and introduces young designers to a struc -tured and creative fashion scene. The Prince Claus Fund collaboratedin the production of the fourth edition of Alokpa in March 2008, whichfeatured 12 finalists from Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ivory Coast,Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal and Togo. The Fund’s support for thisplatform of intercultural exchange and cultural development is linkedto the themes of Beauty in Context and Culture and the Human Body.Alokpa 4Culture and the Human Body 111
