Living CanvasThe artists of the Kasthamandap Art Studio in Nepal have developed‘Living Canvas’ as an original, cross-cultural form of artistic production.Contacting local artists in different countries (India, Bhutan, Dubai andItaly), they organise workshops to construct unique artworks that areworn on the body. The works express local concepts of community, cultureand belief, and are sewn, pasted, woven or painted using local materialssuch as wood, brass, leaves and bamboo. The artists choreo graph the‘living canvases’ in a catwalk exhibition. Special music for the perfor -mance is also developed by local musicians in collaboration with a Nepaliethno-techno group travelling with the visual artists. The Prince ClausFund is supporting ‘Living Canvas’ in its intercultural exchange. Theproject, designed to take art off the walls, uses the body to give audiencesa different experience of art and to blend mediums and discip lines in aphysical expression of culture.LivingCanvas123Culture and the Human Body
