25Bulk Deposition and Stand Throughfall: MRKAnnual precipitation, interception by the tree canopies, and the mean pH and amountsof a range of anions, cations and other elements in bulk deposition and in standthroughfall during the period Jan 1, 2004–Dec 31, 2006 have been presented by Antti-Jussi Lindroos and John Derome (Finnish Forest Research Institute) in a memo and aresummarized below. Location of MRK plots.The mean amount of precipitation during 2006 on the plots in open areas (bulk deposition;plots MRK2, MRK7 and MRK9) was slightly higher (535 mm) than in 2005 (491mm), but clearly lower than the situation in 2004 (632 mm) (Fig. 16, Table E-1). Therewas considerable variation between the annual amounts of precipitation measured onthe individual plots in 2006, as was the case in 2005. Plot MRK9 again had considerablylower precipitation than the other two plots. The difference between the amounts ofprecipitation was most probably related to topographic features.
