Th e ongoin g organizatio n restructurin gfollowing technological advancement (e.g . introduction of prepaid phone card at TTCL )is affecting membership, as more members will be out of employment, This will result innew arrangements for repayments of outstanding loans and new borrowing if they decideto retain membership. A mass retrenchment i n progress o f around 1,60 0 TTC L staff ,which is expected to grow to 2,400 (about 80 % assumed to be active members), shallcause a serious drop in membership financial base.Experience shows that majority of people working in every region are from other regionsin Tanzania , so the possibility of retrenched staf f to return to their places of origin islooming. This causes KK member s to withdraw their shares and deposits, fo r a freshstart somewhere else, resulting in a drop in society's equity. Also, many members whohave worked with member organizations for a long time are now expected to retire. It isobvious that there will be very little new recruitment as technology is taking over humanresources.
