<strong>Patricroft</strong> <strong>Bridge</strong> <strong>Baseline</strong> <strong>Report</strong>Community FacilitiesThe plan opposite shows the range of communityfacilities in relation to the <strong>Patricroft</strong> <strong>Bridge</strong> site boundary.Within the 10 minute walking radius from the centre ofthe site there are few facilities. Rainbow CommunityCentre offers a range of activities such as health andfitness classes, dance classes, short courses andaccess to meeting rooms.The centre is well used by the community. There is adance studio in the <strong>Bridge</strong>water Mill, however this isonly operational during the weekends. DistinctionsComputer Training Centre (in the former bank) is aprivately run business enterprise offering internetaccess, and a range of computer training courses. Thecentre is a popular hub for local people and the owneris hoping to improve access and parking facilities in thefuture. <strong>Patricroft</strong> Working Men’s Club is a hub for elderpersons in the area and has a bowling green offering asafe environment and membership to people living inthe <strong>Patricroft</strong> area. Most of the other facilities tend to becloser towards Eccles Town Centre.Educational FacilitiesThere are no schools within the study boundaryhowever there are a number of primary and secondaryschools within walking distance. The closest primaryschools are Lewis Street Primary School which has 188pupils and Christ Church C of E School which has 206pupils. Further afield are Godfrey Ermen Memorial CEPrimary which has 299 pupils, Holy Cross and All SaintsRC Primary School with 234 pupils and St Mary’s RCPrimary School and St Andrews C of E Primary School.Lewis Street is due to be amalgamated with ChristChurch Primary School and a new state of the arteducational facility is to be redeveloped on the existingLewis Street Site extending towards Liveroppl Road.Discussions are currently underway to progress theplans further. Lewis Street currently offers a range ofadult learning courses open to the community but dueto building constraints are unable to offer a full rangeof extended learning courses. Once the new school isdeveloped there will be more scope to offer a full rangeof community learning courses. The new school is dueto be developed within the next four years. The schoolis keen to develop improved play provision and amenityspace as part of the new school. One of the key issuesfaced by schools in the area was the need for supportworkers within the school to help with pupils fromfamilies with alcohol and drug abuse issues.There are 2 high schools outside the 10 minute walkradius which serve the area, New Park High School andSt Patrick’s High School.There is limited nursery school provision with one nurseryon Liverpool Road. Most of the nursery provision isoffered by local primary schools.There is a specialist employment advisory andcommunity resource centre on Liverpool Road.Youth FacilitiesThere is one youth centre in the area located onGladstone Road. Eccles Youth Centre offers a range ofeducational support, sports and fun activities for youngpeople aged 13 – 25. The centre can also be used bycommunity and voluntary youth groups.The centre works with other Youth service providersand currently have a young Black men’s group workingclosely with the Salford Link Project. The Eccles YouthCentre have been involved in anti-racist work.HealthcareThere are a range of doctor’s surgery and dentistshowever most of these are a distance from the studyarea. Specialist drugs advisory service is offered bySalford Drugs Service in Eccles Town Centre.Sports and LeisureThere is a sports centre at Moat Hall but the nearestsports centre is City Leisure in Eccles Town Centreoffering a full range of sports and leisure activities.There is a specialist training gym in <strong>Bridge</strong>water Mill.Other key facilities are the Christ Church, the MethodistChurch and Eccles Library.27
