Report by URBED with AGDLiverpool Road Pedestrian FacilitiesLiverpool Road serves as the main legible highway routethrough the Patricroft Bridge area but acts as a poorroute for pedestrians in places. A number of sections ofpavement on either side of the carriageway have beenwidened to allow good provision for pedestrians but alarge proportion of the pavement between the WorsleyRoad/Liverpool Road and Green Lane/ Liverpool Roadjunctions are less than 2 metres in width. The effectivewidth of the pavement is further reduced by a numberof obstructions (such as signage posts, lampposts andpedestrian guard rails) that further restrict passage forpedestrians, especially those in wheelchairs and withprams. In some areas the effective pavement width isless than 1.8 metres. From Top Left, Clockwise:Patricroft Bridge on LiverpoolRoad; Guard railing on LiverpoolRoad;Pedestrian and cycle provisionon Liverpool Road; wide junctionmouth at the Cawdor Street/Liverpool Road junctionFigure 21 opposite shows the effective pedestrianprovision along Liverpool Road and places where it maybe necessary to improve pedestrian width. Pavementprovision close to the Barton Road/Liverpool Roadjunction is particularly narrow in places (coloured red onthe plan). Other pedestrian problems exist at a numberof priority junctions , such as at the Cawdor Street/Liverpool Road junction where the mouth of the junctionis very wide. Comprehensive pedestrian crossingfacilities along Liverpool Road do exist at the LiverpoolRoad/Barton Road junction and crossing facilities existacross Green Lane at the Liverpool Road/Green Lanejunction but no facilities cross Liverpool Road at thisimportant junction.44
