Report by URBED with AGDGreen SpaceGreen space is limited and largely disconnected withthe canal hidden from life.Green spaces in the study area comprise the bowlinggreen (but this is not open to public access), and thepocket park at Chapel Street. There are other areas ofinaccessible semi-natural space along and adjacent tothe canal. There are no formally recognized public open spaces inthe study area apart from the Bridgewater Canal, whichis a local semi-natural greenspace. There are 2 formal green spaces adjacent to the studyarea. Salford Greenspace Strategy is a SupplementaryPlanning Document adopted in July 2006 and sets outexisting and proposed greenspace provision in thecity.Patricroft Recreation GroundPatricroft Recreation Ground to the south west,is a neighbourhood park and provides a NEAP(Neighbourhood Equipped Area for Play) and a LEAP(Local Equipped Area for Play). This green space is a priority for improvement asis accessible to a large number of households. Theenhancement to a Local Semi-Natural Greenspace willencourage greater wildlife interest. The Ivy Street PlayArea to the south east is proposed for a LEAP.In general Eccles has a substantial amount ofrecreational space but much of it requires improvements. The area is below the required provision for sportspitches. The area is poorly provided with Equipped Play Spaceparticularly for young children and other facilities forYouth and Adults such as tennis courts, bowling greensand multi-use games areas. Eccles has a good supplyof Local Semi-Natural Greenspace particularly to thewest of the area where the canal and Worsley Brookcorridor provide many opportunities. Improvements areneeded to improve the wildlife value of the parks.Above, the canal has a multi-functional greeninfrastructure role.30
