General Maintenance and Troubleshooting6. Toggle the maintenance switch to the NORMAL position.7. Tighten the gold nut on Terminal 5B.3.2.9.2. Maintenance Switch Not InstalledIf it becomes necessary to replace the gate arm on the mechanism, the following procedures may beused. (For models with maintenance switch, see Section 3.2.9.1).1. Remove red motor lead from terminal T4.2. Loosen the gold nut on terminal 5B (refer to Figure 2-2, Figure 2-3, Figure 2-4, and Figure 2-5 forterminal locations).3. Temporarily connect a jumper from terminal 6B on the terminal board to red motor lead.4. Connect another jumper from terminal 2C on the terminal board to T5 of the terminal strip (T5usually has a black wire connected to it).5. Allow the support arm to drive down. Immediately insert the provided hold down pin into anappropriate opening in the large idler gear.CAUTIONRemove jumpers quickly after pinning the gear. With the jumpersinstalled the motor will be in a stalled condition which may potentiallycause damage to the motor.6. Remove the jumper wires connected to terminal 2C and 6B on the terminal board.7. Replace the gate arm.8. Remove hold down pin.9. Reconnect red motor lead to terminal T4 and tighten gold nut on 5B.3.2.10. Eliminating Brush Dust Related System Grounds in the Gearmotor"Dust and dirt may collect in the gearmotor and create a ground on the system. These grounds can beremoved as follows:1. Remove the gearmotor from the gate mechanism per Section 3.2.6.2. Disassemble the gearmotor completely, clean the gearmotor thoroughly per standard motorcleaning processes, and reassemble the gearmotor.<strong>SM</strong> <strong>6495</strong>, Rev. 7, December 2008 3-11
