A GP SERVICES COMMITTEE INCENTIVES
3. Does participating in this program mean the network members are on call
for obstetrics for the community?
No. This is not an on-call program. Although one eligibility criterion requires
cooperation within the network to ensure that one member is always available for
deliveries, participating in this program does not require you to be on call for patients
outside your group.
4. Is the payment per doctor or per group?
The network payment is per doctor registered in the network. The payment is not
made automatically once a registration form is submitted, but still must be billed each
quarter as outlined.
5. How much is the network payment?
As of June 30, 2006, the quarterly payment was initially set at $1,250. Effective
December 31, 2006, the payment has been increased to $1,500 per doctor. Effective
December 31, 2007, this payment was increased further to $1,850 per quarter per
practitioner.
6. Do we have to advertise that we accept referrals?
No. Word of mouth is sufficient.
7. What if a doctor delivers five babies in one month, then none in the
next 7 months?
The condition of scheduling at least four deliveries in every 6-month period seemed
reasonable in ensuring that a doctor was in active obstetrical practice. If a situation
arises during the program – five babies in one month and then none in seven, for
example – let the administrator know and the GP Services Committee will review the
situation.
8. Is this payment eligible for rural premiums?
No.
9. Are general practitioners who are paid by service contract, sessional, or
salary payments eligible to receive the maternity network payments?
Yes.
