MINISTRY OF FINANCE AND PETROLEUM – DOHA, STATE OF QATAR• This Project was commissioned to our Office in 1979– We designed the Project out of our Parisoffice and I was appointed as the Chief Project Architect. The fact that I was fluent in 5 languagesincluding the Arabic Language helped a lot in communicating with the Technical Office of HisHighness the Amir of Qatar. It consisted in a 10,000 m2 as an addition to an old Ministry buildinglocated in the main boulevard of the City.• This is a project that I handled from the inception to it’s final completion including PreliminaryDesign and Design Development. The working drawings were carried out at our Tokyo officetogether with the tender documents. I was too busy coordinating other projects in Europeparticularly the Naples Project and could not participate in the preparation of the working drawingsthat were all done by hand (sadly there was no AutoCAD at the time!) We selected anEngineering Office in Beirut to do the MEP and Structural Design.• Turner International were appointed as Construction Managers (the head was a CanadianEngineer from Montreal!). He used to send me regularly the shop drawings by DHL andfortunately the aluminum works were executed in France that made it easier to review andapprove the aluminum shop drawings. I would fly to Doha and Beirut to coordinate theEngineering Design and later on once a month for the Top Supervision and approval of finishingelements. I also flew to Carrara, Italy to select the Sardinian granite that we used for the facades.
