It was very important for us to have in our team such an ingenious structural engineer thatcould realize our Architectural concept in a simplified and elegant manner otherwise therewould have been many internal columns and a heavy structure defeating the purpose of thearchitectural design. I am sure you will agree that in this rather small building every detail isamplified because of the simplicity of the design, especially where the materials are very lightin color and there is plenty of glass.I was in charge to coordinate the design drawings with the mechanical, electrical, structural, acoustic and other specialized engineers by holding meetings in Nice every other week and ofcourse exchange correspondence on a continuous basis. Later on I was also in charge tosupervise the construction of the building on a bi-weekly basis flying over from Paris, whichwas pretty neat.My involvement also included the review and approval of the sub-contractors shop drawingsand selection all the finishing materials to the minor detail that I did with tremendous devotionbecause I knew that this was a unique occasion that does not happen often in one’s life andthat eventually the building would be signed by Professor Tange. This was a sweetresponsibility! The Project was so successful that the Mayor of the City handed Kenzo Tange, The Key ofthe City of Nice and was praised a lot by the national media, for me just working with Tangewas already a great honor. The Asian Art Museum of Nice is affiliated to the famous Musée Guimet in Paris and hoststemporary exhibitions and cultural events; it has a modest collection of Asian Art, mainlyBuddhist. There is a nice video in youtube.com that has been added with nice music in case you maywant to check it out. The web site of the Museum is www.arts-asiatiques.com
