Moses and Joshua were working to-gether, as we know in retrospect, to prepareJoshua for leadership.out men, and go out, fight with Amalek:to morrow I will stand on the top of the hillwith the rod of God in mine hand.So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, andfought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron,and Hur went up to the top of the hill.And it came to pass, when Moses held up hishand, that Israel prevailed: and when he letdown his hand, Amalek prevailed.But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they tooka stone, and put it under him, and he satthereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up hishands, the one on the one side, and the otheron the other side; and his hands were steadyuntil the going down of the sun.And Joshua discomfited Amalek and hispeople with the edge of the sword.And the Lord said unto Moses, Write thisfor a memorial in a book, and rehearse it inthe ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put outthe remembrance of Amalek from underheaven.Moses and Joshua not only worked together inannihilating the Amalekites, but then God toldMoses to write down the account of the event andrepeat the story for Joshua to hear—to make an114The Transfer of LeadershipExodus 24:13:And Moses rose up, and his ministerJoshua....Joshua was a minister, a helper, an assistant toMoses.
