Theman was Joseph. The nation was Egypt. Whatwas it that Joseph did to bring ancient Egypt tosuch great prominence? He listened to God, andthen he faithfully carried out His instructions.These two keys—listening and carrying out—arefoundational to the success of any person or anyfamily or any nation.When I first began to understand the record ofJoseph in chapters 37 through 41 of Genesis,I walked on air for days. Seeing how God movedin the life of one human being was electrifying.Very few people throughout history have learnedto listen to God as Joseph did; even fewer havelearned to walk in obedience.
