This all took place overfruitful in the land of my affliction.*Ephraim: For God hath caused me to bea period of time.And the seven years of plenteousness, thatwas in the land of Egypt, were ended.And the seven years of dearth began tocome, according as Joseph had said: and thedearth was in all lands; but in all the land ofEgypt there was bread.Verses 47-50:And in the seven plenteous years the earthbrought forth by handfuls.And he gathered up all the food of the sevenyears, which were in the land of Egypt, andlaid up the food in the cities: the food of thefield, which was round about every city, laidhe up in the same.And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of thesea, very much, until he left numbering; forit was without number.And unto Joseph were born two sons beforethe years of famine came, which Asenaththe daughter of Potipherah priest of Onbare unto him.So Joseph had two children during the sevenyears of plenty.166Not only in Egypt, but in all the lands thefamine came. Joseph’s two sons,Manasseh and Ephraim, each headed a tribe. This was indeeda great honor, a double-portion blessing because oftheir father. See Genesis 48.167
