served at dinner: ugali, matoke, mokimo i sukumawiki, taste evenmore delicious.I decide to spend the next dayactively and making the most ofall the water sports available.I try snorkelling and windsurfing, but I must admit the idea ofgolf along the coast does soundtempting. The evening’s reservedfor the SPA.What could possibly match this?Thrilling adventures! And theseawait me in the heart of Kenya. On a five-day safari, in front ofme is the full spectrum of richesthis land has to offer me. In orderto watch nature awakening, theexpedition sets off before dawn.We pass through wildernesseswhere civilisation is yet to reach.Even time seems to flow differentlyhere. And all you need todo is to keep your eyes open.I’m entranced by how fascinatingit is to simply observe animalsin their natural environment, which is only possiblewithin the conservation areasdesigned to protect the wildlife –– including one of the largestnational parks in the world.Tsavo National Park, with an areaof 22 000km 2 , is famous for itshuge baobab trees and the redelephants which are exclusive tothis area. Their colour is a resultof the mud baths these elephantsenjoy taking. In addition, the en-dangered black rhinos, able torun at speeds of up to 50km/hdespite their massive build, havetheir own reserve here. The lionsliving in the Park are also unique,in that they don’t have manes. This is probably related to thehierarchy and the fact that thereis no fighting within the pride. This in turn related to testosteronelevels. The pride in Tsavohas only one male, whereas inother areas live coalitions of severalmales in one pride.Late in the afternoon, the savannahcomes alive again. Animalsmove towards watering-holes,predators start their hunts, andI’m right behind them. A sign thata safari has been successful iswhen you manage to tick off theBig Five on the list: an elephant,a lion, a buffalo, a rhinoceros anda leopard. All of these live in theMasai Mara National Reserve, which is unrivalled in terms ofdiversity and sheer volume ofwildlife. In autumn, the annualmigration of over two-millionanimals awaiting the start of thewet season begins. After the excitement of a day onthe savannah, we stay at exclusivelodges within the parks. Thesavannah doesn’t sleep so animalsounds accompany us throughoutthe day and night. It’s not just the fauna, the flora isjust as unique and stunning butthat’s another story all together.Let the crowning achievement ofour trip be the view of the majesticsolitary massif of Kilimanjaro(5895m), often called the Roof ofAfrica and snow on the Equatorat 5199m, on the volcanic massifof Mount Kenya.Kwaheri!Barbara KomarArtykuł powstał dziękiThis article is sponsored bysilesia airport 17
