Biochemic Text Pages 10/5/07 11:36 am Page 25CHANGING THE REMEDYIn the treatment of some ailments, particular those of an acute kind, differing symptoms may make their appearance during the course oftreatment, and in such cases the remedies should be changed orsupplemented in accordance with the variation of the symptoms ateach successive stage.CLEANSING THE SYSTEMIt has already been explained that the inorganic constituents of thehuman system - the twelve tissue salts - are the tissue builders whichcombine with, and convert, organic matter into living tissue. Thus anytissue salt deficiency or imbalance renders its organic counterpart nonfunctional. The system seeks to eliminate this useless material andsymptoms such as catarrh and eczema are the visible results of thisnatural, cleansing process. Clearly, such symptoms should never besuppressed, otherwise this waste matter, by clogging the system, wouldsoon bring the life processes to a half. The tissue salts to be thought ofin such cases are those principally concerned with catarrhal conditions, notably Calc. Sulph. to purify the blood, Kali Mur. to correct sluggish, congested conditions, and Nat. Sulph. the liver salt.CORRECTING PAST ERRORSNumbers of people are unknowingly suffering from the cumulativeeffects of suppressive treatments to which they have been subjected inthe past (medicinal drug poisoning) and, in such cases, response tobiochemic treatment may be slow. If little or no benefit is apparentafter a reasonable period of treatment with the remedy indicated bythe symptoms, the system can be rendered more responsive by a shortanti-toxic course consisting of the two remedies, Nat. Mur. and KaliSulph. in alternation; three doses of each remedy taken daily. After thiscorrective treatment other tissue salts will usually prove fully effective intheir own sphere of action.22To the newcomer to Biochemistry, the list ofailments and suggested remedies given in thefollowing section will prove helpful. But, asexperience in the use of the tissue salts isacquired, the aim should be to determine themost prominent symptom in any given caseand to treat that symptom first. The name ofan ailment can mean little or nothing, butsymptoms, viewed in the light of the teachingsof biochemistry, are a guide to the nature ofthe body’s deficiency and to the correctivetreatment required. It should be borne in mindthat these suggestions are intended asfirst aids for the treatment of minor ailments. Itis always advisable to consult a doctor, preferably a homeopathic physician, wheneverthe symptoms persist, or if they are in any wayunusual at the beginning or during the courseof an illness. As a means of providing first-aid,biochemic treatment is invaluable. The tissuesalts are perfectly safe at all times and theycannot conflict with other treatments.23
