Fortunately, however, this business of eating for health is not so complicated noras dull and dreary as one might be led to believe. To those seekingguidance on this subject, we would say most emphatically - bewareof “fads”.A good mixed diet is necessary for the proper nourishment of thehuman body. Further, the saying “Variety is the spice of life” appliesvery particularly to foods. Never forget that eating has itspsychological aspect. Avoid monotony, let your food be interestingand as varied as possible - enjoy it!Unelss it has been grossly abused, the palate is a sure guide to thebody’s needs and can best tell you what to take and what to avoidat any given time. That “mouth-watering” interest in someparticular food is of real significance. Therefore, keep the palateunsullied, do not bludgeon it with highly seasoned tit-bits and socalledappetisers.Foods, as nature provides them, contain essential accessory factors(vitamins and minerals) and, in the case of raw fruits, water in itspurest form. It is wise, therefore, to give preference always to freshwholesome foods in their natural state, or as near so as possible, including that very necessary material known as “roughage” as providedin wholemeal bread, raw fruits, salad greens, fresh vegetables, etc.75
