Within twenty-four hours there is an eruption of redpimples, which later become filled with a clear fluid. These vesicleseventually form small crusts which scale off in little more than a week. The child must be isolated from other children for fourteen days fromthe appearance of the rash. Scratching should be discouraged or themarks on the skin may remain. In some cases, shingles in adults isthought to be due to infection from chicken pox. It is therefore a wiseprecaution never to neglect the common cold. If you can go to bed fora day or two, do so. You will benefit from the rest and your system willhave a better chance of dealing with this temporary indisposition.Colds are, in effect, a cleansing process, indicating that the body isridding itself of non-functional organic matter. Do not attempt tosuppress a cold. Assist the process of elimination by giving copiousdrinks, lemon, barley water, etc., and keeping the bowels active, thereby giving the digestive system a well-earned respite. Thesecommon-sense measures should serve to cut short the course of thecold and other people will not be exposed to infection. If thesymptoms persist medical advice should be sought, as more serioustroubles sometimes start with the same symptoms as a cold.People who are susceptible to colds will find a course of Ferr. Phos.,Kali Mur. and Nat. Mur. is helpful (Combination J).3031
