Pohnpei had the highest totalannual household income at about $94 million (43% of total FSM income). Kosrae had the lowest totalannual income of $15 million or 7% of the total. About $183 million (83%) of the total household incomewas contributed by male-headed households.The total household income of each state was largely contributed by male-headed households. Femaleheadedhouseholds in Pohnpei have a higher contribution to its total household income, compared to theother states. About 21% of Pohnpei’s total household income was contribution by female-headedhouseholds. Contribution of female-headed households to the total income was less in Chuuk <strong>and</strong> Kosraecompared to the other two states. Wages & salary <strong>and</strong> subsistence activity were the major sources ofincome for both male <strong>and</strong> female-headed households. A higher percentage of female-headed householdsreceived income from social security <strong>and</strong> retirement payment, educational grants, remittance, <strong>and</strong> gifts(Appendix B, Table 2).Table 2.
