2005 <strong>Household</strong> <strong>Income</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Expenditure</strong> <strong>Survey</strong> <strong>Report</strong>Non-durable furnishingsThis includes the value of all non-durable furnishings such as utensils & accessories, household linens, floorcoverings, <strong>and</strong> other household furnishings purchased during the reference period.Not in Labor ForceAll persons 15 years <strong>and</strong> over who were not in the labor force. It consists mainly of students, housewives, retiredworkers, seasonal workers enumerated in an ‘off’ season who were not looking for work, institutionalized persons, <strong>and</strong>persons doing only incidental unpaid family work.Per capita incomePer capita income is obtained by dividing the total household income by the total number of household members.Purchased Items or Items BoughtIt constitutes anything (food item, clothing article, gasoline, soap, etc.) that a household buys with cash, credit or timepayment for the use of the household as a whole or for the exclusive use of any member of the household. It alsoincludes items you paid for anyone outside of the household.Recreation & Recreational ServicesIt includes expenses made goods <strong>and</strong> services relating to sports, entertainment <strong>and</strong> exercise <strong>and</strong> their repairs (see App.E-sections 3 (Electronic Goods) <strong>and</strong> 3a.Wages <strong>and</strong> SalariesIt includes cash income from all forms of compensation received by household members who are working as anemployee for a private enterprise or branch of government. It includes “take-home” pay plus all deductions forwithholding tax, Social Security, health insurance, life insurance, mortgage payments, etc. It also includescommissions, tips <strong>and</strong> bonuses. For Armed Forces pay, includes base pay plus cash housing, subsistence allowance,longevity, flighty pay.Subsistence/sustenance activitySubsistence activity or home production-subsistence is an economic activity where the produce is mainly for homeconsumption, not for commercial purposes. It includes gardening, animal raising, fishing, <strong>and</strong> others such as growingcrops, etc. Occasionally, sales are made when the harvest/produce is more than enough for home consumption.Subsistence activity-market oriented or home production-market oriented is an economic activity of those who farmedor fished <strong>and</strong> sold some of their produce.TaxesThe following forms of taxes were included in the survey:1. <strong>Income</strong> tax – refers to the tax levied on the income of a working person in pursuit of his occupation.2. Car registration <strong>and</strong> Driver’s Licenses – this includes registration fees for motor vehicles used for private transportof the household, payment for driver’s license, etc.Transportation <strong>and</strong> communicationThis includes expenses on transport fares, telephone rental <strong>and</strong> charges, telegrams, postages <strong>and</strong> expenses for personaltransport, gasoline, motor oil, etc.UnemployedPersons 15 years <strong>and</strong> over, who were not employed <strong>and</strong> were looking <strong>and</strong> available for work during the referenceperiod.Division of Statistics,50 Office of Statistics, Budget & Economic Management, Overseas Development Assistance <strong>and</strong> Compact Management
