The cumulative grade point average is computed by applying this formula to all course work for which thestudent has enrolled for credit since the student’s first term at DCAD. Credits transferred from another collegeare not included in the cumulative grade point average.K . 1 1 . D e a n ’ s L i s tA Dean’s List <strong>and</strong> Dean’s List with Distinction* recognizes academic achievement in a specific semester. This isthe criteria:A term GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.7 to 3.89 to be named to the Dean’s List*A term GPA <strong>of</strong> 3.9 or higher to be named to the Dean’s List with Distinction*Earning 12 credits or more in the academic termNo final grade lower than a B in the academic term*This recognition is noted on the student’s <strong>of</strong>ficial transcript.K . 1 2 . G r a d u a t i n g w i t h H o n o r s<strong>Student</strong>s earning a cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong> 3.50 or better at the completion <strong>of</strong> their AFA programare eligible to graduate with Honors. This is noted on the transcript <strong>and</strong> becomes part <strong>of</strong> the permanentacademic record.K . 1 3 . A c a d e m i c P r o g r e s sA student’s overall academic progress is the st<strong>and</strong>ard by which progress towards a degree is measured. Eachstudent’s academic st<strong>and</strong>ing is determined at the end <strong>of</strong> each semester on the basis <strong>of</strong> attempted semestercredits <strong>and</strong> cumulative grade point average. To retain good academic st<strong>and</strong>ing, students must earn acumulative grade point average (GPA) <strong>of</strong> at least 2.0 on a 0.0-4.0 grading scale.<strong>Student</strong>s who earn less than a 2.0 cumulative grade point average have unsatisfactory academic progress <strong>and</strong>will be put on Academic <strong>and</strong> Financial Aid Warning. If a student maintains a cumulative grade point average <strong>of</strong>less than 2.0 in two consecutive semesters they will automatically be dismissed from the <strong>College</strong> with theopportunity to appeal. All students who have a cumulative grade point average less than 1.00 <strong>and</strong>/or earns an“F” in a core course will be notified by the Registrar to meet with the <strong>Student</strong> Success Committee at the end <strong>of</strong>the semester to review problems <strong>and</strong> create strategies to gain successful academic progress. <strong>Student</strong>s shouldalso consult the “Satisfactory Academic Progress” (SAP) section located on the Financial Aid page <strong>of</strong> thecatalogue to underst<strong>and</strong> how their academic progress affects their financial aid eligibility.The DCAD Financial Aid Office sends all students an SAP Report after each semester which specifies how eachstudent st<strong>and</strong>s in reference to earning a minimum 2.0 GPA; pace in completing program <strong>of</strong> study: successfullycompleting at least 67% <strong>of</strong> classes attempted; <strong>and</strong> progressing within Time Frame Progression St<strong>and</strong>ard, i.e.progressing within 150% <strong>of</strong> the time frame required to complete their Associate <strong>of</strong> Fine <strong>Art</strong>s Degree.K . 1 4 . M i d - S e m e s t e r W a r n i n g sEach student’s progress is reviewed at the mid-point <strong>of</strong> the semester. Warnings are issued to those studentswho are not satisfactorily fulfilling the course requirements <strong>and</strong> are in danger <strong>of</strong> falling out <strong>of</strong> good academicst<strong>and</strong>ing. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the faculty member issuing the warning in order todetermine what is required to improve performance in the class.
